I want to be a Tomahawk missile. Not blowing up things. But always on course.
I've read that Tomahawk missiles have this state-of-the-art internal guidance system that always get them to their target. If they're wandering, they self-correct so they don't miss.
As a child of God, I've got an internal guidance system that can do the same for me. Because God's planted His Holy Spirit in His kids so they can make decisions and handle situations in line with the Master Plan.
My Bible tells me that "the integrity of the upright guides them" (Proverbs 11:3). Man, does that simplify a thousand choices I'll have to make. Always take the high road. Period. No matter the pressures, no matter the consequences. If you make uncompromising integrity your internal guidance system, you'll always land where you're supposed to.
The integrity factor is huge in staying on course. But so is the peace factor. "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts" (Colossians 3:15) has become my gyroscope to keep the ship stable when the storm is raging all around me - and inside me.
In the original language, that word "rule" has the meaning of "be the umpire." That means I'm supposed to let this "peace of Christ" make the call as to what's "safe" and what's "out" in any decision or situation I'm facing. I've come to define that peace as the way my heart is feeling about a decision when it's just me and God talking about it. It gets confusing when other voices chime in - I hear God best when I'm hearing only Him.
So "go with the peace of Christ" has become the bottom line for me over and over again. And that peace has never steered me wrong.
Today, as I sit waiting in a hospital, I am downloading that peace. And staying on course.
