We'd never pick them to be the ones invited to the first Christmas. After all, shepherds were considered the lowest of the low-lifes - unfit to even be allowed in God's temple. But the Bible says, "There were shepherds...keeping watch over their flocks...an angel appeared to them" and made this startling announcement: "Today...a Savior has been born to you" (Luke 2:8-11). But why shepherds?
Maybe because Jesus welcomes people who are not "His type." Maybe you feel that way. You've experienced your share of closed doors. And you've done a lot of wrong things. But that's who Jesus came for.
It figures it was shepherds. Because the Bible says we're all "like sheep, who have gone astray." But when Jesus died on the cross, "the Lord" the Bible says, "laid on Him the wrongdoing of us all" (Isaiah 53:6).
And the Bible says Jesus was the sacrificial "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" (John 1:29). He's waiting to do that for you this Christmas. If you'll pin your hopes on Him.
