The Christmas tree looks awesome! Our family pitched in to make sure the lights were just right, all the ornaments were on, the star was on the top.
But there's a dirty little secret about that beautiful tree. It's dead. Decorated...but dead.
God says there are people like that. They look and talk like someone who belongs to Jesus. They go to His meetings, believe His beliefs. But Jesus said there will come a day when lots of religious folks will stand before Him, reciting all their Christian credentials. But He will tell them, the Bible says, "I never knew you" (Matthew 7:23). So the Bible says, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith" (2 Corinthians 13:5).
You can have Jesus in your head, but not in your heart. You can have a lot of Christianity and miss Christ. Because there's never been a time when you consciously told Jesus, "You're my only hope. I believe that what You did on that cross was paying for my sin against You. I'm pinning all my hopes on You."
