In our house, my youngest son is one of the first to ask how close we are to Christmas. He can't wait for Christmas to come! But, he's also quick to point out something that takes place just a few days earlier - his birthday. He wants to make sure that his birthday isn't missed in the countdown to Christmas.
Jesus knows that feeling. Because so many people do all the Christmas stuff and largely forget it's His birthday. More important, they miss why He came that first Christmas. It was a rescue mission. To rescue us from the darkness - now and forever - of running our life our way instead of God's way. To save our life, He gave His. On a cross.
And He wants this Christmas season to be a "birthday" for you, too. Your birth into God's family. God's story - the Bible - says, "To all who...accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God." (John 1:12 - NLT).
