The dreaded day comes every April - income tax day - our day of reckoning with Uncle Sam. Many Americans burn the midnight oil, and accountants of course, are at the peak of their crazy season. You know, it is best to get this right, because you never know who is going to be audited, right?
Whether it's a personal audit or a company audit like our ministry has every year, it's nice to know you have nothing to hide. It's the same when the time comes for the Ultimate Auditor to review, not just your finances, but your life.
The Bible says, "Each of us will give account of himself to God" (Romans 14:12). Now, on that day, there are going to be no excuses, no passing the buck. God's not going to want to hear any of us say, "Yeah, but if you knew my wife, my husband, my parents, what those people did to me." We're talking a "no secrets" personal accounting of how you lived your life in light of God's standards and God's plans. "Give account of himself" it says. It will be a time of full disclosure. The Bible says, "He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts" (1 Corinthians 4:5).
Jesus revealed the data that He will go to, to audit our lives. It's the words we've spoken. Why? Well, the Bible says, "Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). Your words reveal your heart, so as Jesus said, "Men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken" (Matthew 12:36-37).
Live your life so you're ready for the audit. It is only right for our ministry to be ready to report to those who have given to support us. Even more so we should be ready to give a full report to the One who paid the full price of the cross for us.
