On February 18th the U.S. celebrates President's Day. This is a time set apart to give specific honor to our nation's past leaders for their service to our country. It seems appropriate to honor those who serve or have served in a leadership capacity for their selfless sacrifice for the good of all. This is also an appropriate time to look at the leadership roles each of us have.
Even though most of us will not reach the level of leadership of our nation's Presidents, God has given each of us some leadership responsibilities that are critical to the people closest to us.
A simple definition of leadership is "having influence with others." Given this definition, it is easy to see that God assigned leadership roles to each of us in our families, with our friends, in our peer group, in our church and in our workplace. From the President of the United States to the work-at-home mom, we are all leaders and may be influencing the next President or the next great Christian evangelist.
According to 2 Corinthians 5:20, we are also assigned the leadership role of Christ's ambassador. Every believer has been assigned by the highest authority in the universe to represent Him and speak for Him in a specific place (at home, school, work, church) to a specific group of people (family, friends, neighbors, coworkers). In his book "A Life That Matters," Ron addresses the "why" and "how" to be Christ's ambassador.
Leading people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in a natural, non-threatening way is possible. If your goal is to make the greatest possible difference with the rest of your life, then sharing Jesus with the people you know is a must.
