The Crossroads at Stormy Point
How we respond to life’s storms will define our lives perhaps more than anything else.
(Rom 5:3-5) (Lk 22:31-32)
Too many believers have it backwards. God is much more interested in our character than our comfort. The storms in our lives are: A Trust. A Test. And can be. . .A Triumph. A Testimony.
(Taylor’s story)
What we thought could be the worse news of our lives ended up being a crash course in God‘s goodness.
WHY GOD SENDS STORMS
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
To keep us fully dependent on Him.God didn’t change the situation by removing the affliction but by adding an ingredient: grace.- Our “tribulum” (Latin), our trials/storms purify and sanctify us. - God didn’t give Paul explanations. He gave Him promises. Grace is God’s provision for our every need when we need it.
WHAT TO DO WHEN THE STORMS HIT YOU
Embrace His purpose. (Isaiah 64:8) - (John 9:2-3) The storms aren’t random. He has sent them for a reason. - You can focus on the pain of the storm or the purpose of the storm! - The sooner you embrace His purpose, the sooner you experience His peace.
Remember His history. (Isaiah 49:23) - Yesterday’s agony = today’s altar. - Yesterday’s mountain = today’s monument. - Yesterday’s wilderness = today’s worship. - Yesterday’s trial = today’s testimony.
Remember He understands. (Psalm 56:8) (Hebrews 4:15-16)
Trust His plan. (Psalm 139:16) (Hebrews 6:19) - When you can’t see His hand, trust His heart. (Ephesians 6:16)
Spend a lot of time with Him…then spend some more. - In His Word. The greater the storm, the more His promises jump off the page.- On your knees. (James 5:13) (Hebrews 4:15-16) He knows what you’re going through - throw your burdens on Him with confidence.
Light the darkness. (Romans 5:13) - In our sad and broken world, there is no greater witness than
JOYFUL PRESENCE. (Nehemiah 8:10c)
AN AWESOME OUTCOME FOR TRUSTING CHILDREN
(Revelation 21:4) (1 Corinthians 2:9) Believing these promise will change your perspective. Believing the One who made them will change your life.
