Scripture:  Deuteronomy 6:4-9  Psalms 78:1-7  2 Corinthians 5:20  Deuteronomy 30:19-20  Psalms 127:3-5

Legacy Living Defined - (Deut. 4:40) Legacy Living Promises:

Take possession – (1:39) Go well – (4:40, 5:29) Blessed - (28:4)

BOLD CHOICE #4 – I WILL BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT BUILDING FAITH IN MY FAMILY.

Latin root of “legacy” - “legare” - to send as an ambassador.

Your children, your grandchildren, will never interact with a with a more influential ambassador than you. (2 Cor. 5:20) Our kids are deciding who Jesus is by who we are.

Being intentional about legacy by being intentional about your influence.

You’re an influencer in your home. Some with what you say, mostly with what you do.

God’s prescription for “legacy” living? “Remember”

“Remembering” isn’t having a “Jeopardy” level memory - it’s keeping my family’s heart fixed on God’s faithfulness, no matter what.

(Mt. 6:25-34) - God’s promise: “Put Me first...I’ll provide”. THE PLAN

SHARE your God-stories. (4:9-14) (11:1-7) - Be into it.

Be transparent.

Be creative.

Be consistent.

IMPRESS their hearts. (6:4-9)

In the classroom of everyday life – experiencing a real God, not beliefs

about God.

Your time reflects what you say your priorities are. Pretty quickly, your kids figure out what’s important to you. Be strategic! Make lists! Give it thought! (11:16-21)

EXPLAIN why you make the choices you do. (30:19-20) (6:20-25)

The reasons for the boundaries.

The why’s for the should: God doesn’t want us to be slaves again.

It’s much more about winning their heart than winning your point.

(7:3-6) (14:1,2) It’s not about “being a Christian” ... it’s about belonging to Him.

Do more praying than pushing.

Speak up for truth, but choose your battles wisely.

Sexual stuff: Be like Nehemiah. Build a wall but also plan for battle.

CELEBRATE the right stuff. (16:13-15)

Make a big deal of His blessings.

Be intentional about what you celebrate.

The priorities you set now will be the ones they set later.

ENCOURAGE them. (3:28) (Eph. 2:10)

Helping them see the difference they’re wired to make.

“I love you! I don’t want you to settle.”

Praying with them: less of a custom, more strategic!

A parent’s greatest fear: THE PRODIGAL (28:32, 41) Ways to pray:

Lord, frustrate their sin. (Hosea 2:6)

Lord, block their exits. (Proverbs 13:15)

Lord, get their attention. (Psalm 119:67)

Lord, remind them of Jesus. (2 Corinthians 4:4) - Lord, do whatever it takes. (Psalm 119:126)

Lord, bring them home. (Luke 15:4-6)

Special parent promises: (Isaiah 40:11) (Isa. 59:21) (Isa. 54:13) (6:2) An amazing promise. A great prayer to pray back to God.
