SIX CROSSROADS FOR THE JOURNEY AHEAD

Pursuing the “More” He Has in Store

Session 1 - The Crossroads at Default Drive

Our changing seasons are His wakeup calls.we

Our “disruptions” are His dawnings.

Our future is a journey. Psalm 84:5-7

His plan is not more of the same, but a bold

“new thing."

Isaiah 43:18, 19

Following Jesus is not a parking lot. It’s a racetrack! Acts 20:24

We have three choices for the rest of the journey . . .

The brake. Cruise control. The accelerator!

The impact and passion of the rest of our life hinges on our choices at . . .

Six Crossroads for the Journey Ahead

Crossroads # 1 STATUS QUO OR A LOVE THAT GROWS?

Two roads - Proverbs 3:5, 6

Lean on me. Trust in Him.

Our lifetime default response is “lean on me.”

“An option that is selected automatically.”

Symptoms of self-reliance

Worry Stressed. Impatient. Exhaustion

Frustrated. Irritable. Controlling. Discouraged.

Elijah - Faith and flesh I Kings 18:36, 37 19:4, 10

From all about God to all about me. From the summit to the swamp.

The battle - Galatians 5:16, 17

The only way to change our defeating default is a deliberate reset!

Dethroning self-reliance

Proverbs 3:6 - Constantly “acknowledging.”

Frequent and intentional “checking with God.”

The stories of veteran Christian leaders who have testified to a midcourse personal revival tend to land in the same Scripture.

The “new thing” reset

“Unless an alternative is specified.”

The Word at the Crossroads - John 15:1-11

Christ’s call to “ABIDE.”

To “make yourself at home” in Him. To trade pushing for releasing. To trade wrestling for resting.

Branches don’t produce fruit – they display it.

To abandon performance faith for embracing grace. Galatians 1:6

It’s not me working for Jesus. It’s Jesus working through me!

Psalm 20:5-9 - Trust in your “chariots and horses” ---

bow down and fall.

Trust in yahweh elohim --- “stand up!” . . . Victory!

Victory is not achieved. It is received!

What does it look like to “abide?”

It’s focusing on the Relationship, not the responsibilities.

John 15:5, 9

The battle – My list. My load. Or my Lord.

It’s waking up in the morning and immediately giving Him the keys. Exodus 34:2

It’s holy handoffs through the day. Psalm 37:5

It’s flexible faith – going with His flow. James 4:13-15

It’s pausing to listen. Psalm 46:10a Isaiah 30:21

It’s waiting, not pushing. Psalm 37:5, 7

It’s being led, not driven. Isaiah 30:21 Galatians 5:25

It’s re-choosing abiding in a daily time with Jesus. Luke 9:23

It’s sentences that start with “God” as the doer more than “I.”

Philippians 2:13

It’s replacing “by” me with “through” me.

It’s surrender as a lifestyle, not an event. Luke 22:42b

A liberating “declaration of independence” - from me!

Galatians 2:20

The issue at the crossroads - Updated Surrender

To “trust in the Lord with all your heart” is to forfeit control.

A life of responding often to the unburdening invitation of our Jesus . . .

“Come to Me. I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28
