The Gift You Can't Buy

We see a lot of responses when we open our gifts each Christmas. Surprise, tender tears, sometimes a puzzled look, squeals of delight, hugs. What I've never seen is someone reaching for their wallet or purse and asking, "what do I owe you?"

Well of course not, it's a gift, silly! That's something someone else pays for, we just reach out and take it.

Now what's a shocker is that the most precious possession in the world is a gift. The Bible says, "the gift of God is eternal life." Wait a minute, isn't heaven something you earn with the good things you do?

Well actually the Bible says that being saved is "not by works" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Because sin carries a spiritual death penalty that can only be paid by someone dying and someone did. Jesus did. And that's how much He loves you.
