This would be weird. Somebody who loves me gives me a $50 gift card at my favorite store. And I walk over to them to hand them a $50 bill. No! It's a gift! You don't pay for it. Somebody else already.

This would be weird. Somebody who loves me gives me a $50 gift card at my favorite store. And I walk over to them to hand them a $50 bill. No! It's a gift! You don't pay for it. Somebody else already.

We get that when it comes to Christmas gifts. But we miss it when it comes to the gift that your life depends on - forever. Because the Bible says, "The gift of God is eternal life" (Romans 6:23).

But most of us religious people think somehow we can earn heaven by doing good. Even though the Bible clearly says, "We are saved by grace, not by works" (Ephesians 2:8). If you're depending on what you've done, you'll miss heaven.

The gift of eternal life has already been paid for - with the life of God's own Son, Jesus. The only One who could pay our death penalty. The Bible says, "Christ died for our sins" (1 Peter 3:18). And this Christmas He's inviting you to reach out and take the gift He paid for with His life.
